Sunday Trip to Granville Island

Although this Sunday’s visit wasn’t my first trip to Granville Island, it was certainly the first time the Public Market opened my eyes to the variety of food under it’s roof.

Among the vendors I met that day, one stuck out the most: “Wild Products Network” a small company that specializes in selling wild mushrooms, wild plants such as nettles, wild berries, wild dried seaweeds, etc. A great find!

All their pickings are from some of the most remote areas of the BC coast, including Northwestern Vancouver Island. So they are 100% natural and usually within 100km of home! Double bonus!

I wasn’t able to find out the exact temperature used to dehydrate the seaweed, so I took my chances. I picked myself up a medium sized bag of mixed seaweeds (about half a large ziploc bag) for $10. (I threw it in the freezer when I got home.)

The person manning the table said he expected to be at the market each Thursday for the next few months at least. So, if you’re in the neighborhood and looking for a reliable source of seaweeds such as dulse, bull kelp, nori and more, visit Granville Island on a Thursday!!!
